We're not a typical lawn and garden company. Our story didn't start in a boardroom; it started on the land, with a simple belief: the best results come from working with nature, not against it.

For years, we saw a disconnect. We watched our friends, neighbours, and fellow Western Canadians struggle to get the results they wanted in their yards. The products on the shelf were often one-size-fits-all formulas designed for different climates and different soils. They were filled with harsh chemicals that left homeowners feeling uneasy, forcing them to choose between a beautiful yard and their family's peace of mind.
We knew there had to be a better way—a way that respected our unique environment and the people who live here.
Our Roots Run Deep (and Involve Goats)
Our story truly begins with our parent company, Y NOT GOATS LTD.
For years, our family business has been a leader in natural, regenerative land management. We learned that the best way to manage weeds and restore land wasn't with blanket chemical sprays, but with a targeted, balanced, and natural approach (involving a lot of hungry goats!). This taught us a foundational lesson: if you create the right conditions and work with the natural system, the land will thrive.
We asked ourselves a simple question: why wasn’t anyone applying this same philosophy to home gardens?
Meet Ron & Simon Boutin
Proterra Rx is the result of a partnership between a father and son, combining decades of on-the-ground experience with a passion for modern science.
• Ron Boutin: With a lifetime of experience working with the land across Alberta, Ron brings a deep, practical understanding of what it takes to make things grow in our challenging Prairie climate. His philosophy is grounded in common sense, hard work, and a profound respect for nature.
• Simon Boutin: Simon bridges that foundational wisdom with a forward-thinking approach. He saw the opportunity to take the family's land-management ethos and elevate it by partnering with world-class science, creating solutions that were not only natural but also more effective than anything on the market.
